Shadowrun Session Report – The Third Run – Session 02

[This session happened on January 19, 2015.  I took poor notes for this session and the write up is paying for it now.  To be honest, I wasn’t certain we were going to do the run as there seemed to be big red flags.  As we played and got more information, our fears (read: paranoia) settled and we got into the run.]

Player Characters

Void – female human physical adept B&E specialist, a shadow that blends in easily
Murdoc – male elf kilt-wearing street mage, at home with the hobos
Prometheus – male human street samurai, handy with any firearm
Bookie – male elf alcoholic hacker, favors whiskey with a whiskey chaser
The Fin – female human con artist and gambler from India, by way of Russia, posh and elegant
Sin – male human rigger, knows exactly the wrong thing to say and says it

NPC’d Characters

Killroy – male human street samurai, specializes in hand-to-hand combat

With paranoia running high, the team decided they really needed more information about this run – fearing they were just recruited for some sort of underground combat sporting event.  Bookie used a video capture from the meeting to search for information on Mr. Johnson, discovering that Mr. Johnson is the Senior VP of Acquisitions for FHM.  This was not exactly comforting information.

The group decided to play their cards close to the chest for this run and not tell Mr. Johnson everything they were planning.  To take advantage of the pickup location, the group decided to use a submersible to move the package around Harbor Island instead of across it with the majority of the team acting as a distraction for anyone attempting to stop the package.  The group split up for the night, agreeing to look for more answers in the morning.

Prometheus contacted his uncle in the morning and asked about the client and if anything big was happening at Harbor Island on the 28th.  Zeus stated that he had done business with the client before with no problem.  As to the 28th, rumor had it there would be a big meeting between AIPE and PPC Logistics on the island.

Sin contacted Kaylee, his mechanic contact, asking if she could hook him up with a Vulkan Electronaut (a two-person submarine) on the cheap.  She couldn't, especially not in a week.  This was not unexpected and so he asked about a Proteus Lamprey (an undersea sea-sled).  That she could help with – there is a used boat shop run by a guy who burned Kaylee.  He had a Lamprey if Sin could take it.  Sin said that would work fine.  Sin got the address to Cap’n Freddies [sic] from Kaylee and then asked if there was anything he could pick up for her while he was getting the Lamprey.  Kaylee instead asked if he could swap some data on a green datastick with a silver skull at the shop.  Sin said that could happen and got the data Kaylee wanted inserted.

Zeus, Prometheus’s adoptive uncle and fixer, called Prometheus and told Prometheus that there was a job that needed doing, but it needed a team to do it.  Prometheus said he knew a team and asked if he should contact them.  Zeus said, “Yes, that is why you are getting this job.”  Zeus told Prometheus it was a protection job, the pay would be very good, and it needed 6-7 people.  The client wanted to meet the team the next evening at a place to be determined once the team was confirmed.

Prometheus thanked his uncle for the work and then immediately called The Fin.  He explained what he knew about the job.  The Fin asked him many more questions about the job, most of which were answered “I don’t know, but I can ask.”  While Prometheus called his uncle back for more details, The Fin contacted the runners she had recently worked with to see who was available for a well-paying mystery job.  She received affirmatives from the entire group and then went about her business while she waited for Prometheus to call back.

In the meantime, Prometheus contacted his uncle and confirmed a team was being assembled.  Zeus was able to provide more information about the meeting place and time.  Prometheus then passed The Fin the address and time of the meeting to provide the rest of the team.

Each member approaches the meet-site differently, especially once they discover that it is the baseball stadium for the Seattle Mariners.  It is off season and no events were going on, so the team had to break in on their own.  Prometheus used a maglock passkey to get in, The Fin sweet-talked a groundskeeper into letting her in, Void simply jumped over the fence.  Bookie hacked the security system and attended virtually.  Sin contacted Bookie to have Bookie let him in, but no one was certain exactly how Murdoc got in.  [I admit it: we got paranoid here.]

Once inside, the team, still following their own paths, found places inside the stadium to observe and wait for the client to appear.

Then the Jumbotron activated.

On the Jumbotron appeared a troll in a business suit.  He addressed the empty stadium, but it was quickly clear he knew the runners were there and where they all were.  He thanked them for coming and started explaining the details of the job.  When questions were asked, he answered them as if he was standing with the asker.  The job details were:

  • Transport an item in a box within the city.
  • There will be opposition, including a mage.
  • Some of the opposition might be corporate.
  • The item can fit into a vehicle trunk.
  • There is no penalty for turning down the job at this point.
  • The client may be called “Mr. Johnson”.

After some quick conversation via commlink, the team accepted the job.  Mr. Johnson then provided additional details:

  • The pickup address is 1830 13th Ave SW.
  • The delivery address is 3629 Duwamish Ave. S.
  • The job is Thursday, November 28 (in one week) and starts at 10:00am with delivery no later than 1:00pm.
  • The opposition will consist of other runners with the possibility of corporate assets as well.
  • The job pays 80,000¥ with two bonus options:
  • Bonus 1: Grab a particular file from PPC Logistics, a corporation on the route.  This pays 35,000¥.
  • Bonus 2: Eliminate all witnesses.  This pays 35,000¥.
  • Delivery will be taken by Mr. Johnson.

We asked several questions about the package (Is it alive? Is it radioactive? Is it magical?).  The Fin was able to negotiate an additional 15,000¥ for the job.  Mr. Johnson then provided a comm number that we can call to ask additional questions and make requisitions for “things we need”.

Later that night, the team met up to discuss how weird that was and start looking into the job.  The first thing discovered was that the pickup and drop off locations are at either end of Harbor Island, a five minute drive from each other.  And the team was given three HOURS to do the job.

WTF?

End of Session

[In addition to the location surprise, the players nearly had a heart attack when the GM mistakenly said the datarun was vs. PCC Logistics, that is: part of the Pueblo Corporate Council.  The GM then corrected himself and said he meant PPC, not PCC.  Many deep breathes were taken, I can tell you.]

Session 02

Enter: The Lodge

The Shadowrun campaign continues, but I've not got the session notes written up due to other issues relating to my OS collapse back in November.  I have 6000+ documents named "UNNAMED#####" that I'm sorting through to properly name and 30,000+ images named the same way to sort out, so it's taking some time.

In the meantime, I've recreated all the PC character sheets on Hero Lab (the original files were lost in the OS crash).  As a result of this, I had an idea.  One of our Physical Adepts has a contact that is her Lodge Sponsor and she has not named the contact yet.  For fun, I've decided he looks like this:
(Mr. Wo by ariaman on DeviantArt)

Having made that decision, I decided that all members of the lodge adopt an animal mask that is representative of them, either an actual mask or a physical mask spell.  Then I decided that maybe there is a secret reason for this, perhaps they are involved in some sort of... Secret War.

Now to see if the player agrees that this could be interesting and is willing to go with it.

Later!
